What changes
What changes in Odoo 20, by business area.
Odoo’s release notes list hundreds of changes. These are the ones most likely to matter to an operations-led business. Not every change applies to every company — which ones matter depends on how you run.
AI and agentic automation
AI moves from answering questions to working with records.
- Ask an AI agent to create or update records, including from an uploaded file of instructions
- Agents can be triggered by automated and scheduled actions
- Connect an Odoo database to other tools through MCP (Model Context Protocol)
Sales and customer workflows
Faster quoting, clearer pricing and more control over how leads and commissions work.
- Edit the margin on a sales order line and the price recomputes
- Reusable quotation sections and templates
- Lead auto-assignment rules per salesperson, and payment-based commissions
Inventory and supply chain
Replenishment and traceability that lean more on data, less on manual settings.
- Suggested minimum and maximum levels for reordering rules, based on demand history and order frequency
- Improved intercompany flows, such as resupplying one company from another
- A stock aging report, inventory at a past date, and one traceability report for upstream and downstream lots
Manufacturing and shop floor
More flexible execution and more visible planning.
- Continuous production: later operations can start as soon as some quantities are ready
- A redesigned manufacturing order Kanban and a drag-and-drop work order Gantt
- Split ongoing manufacturing orders; see provisional and real manufacturing order cost
Purchasing
Better information about vendors and arrival dates.
- A vendor quality rate based on quality checks of their products
- A default Incoterm per vendor
- Edit expected arrival dates while keeping the vendor’s original date
Accounting and finance
Less manual entry and follow-up, more consistency between stock and the books.
- Bill line suggestions based on bill history
- Automatic invoice reminders and payment-matching rules
- Delivered product values update when costs change afterwards, for example through landed costs
Services, projects and field work
Field work and project finances move into different places in the product.
- Field Service is now part of the Planning app; the separate Field Service app is discontinued
- New project budget and margin reports
- AI-assisted detection of similar Helpdesk tickets
Website and eCommerce
More of the website can be built and run from inside Odoo.
- An AI Website Assistant that can create pages, forms and menu changes
- Automatically generated cross-sell and optional products
- Preferred delivery dates and minimum order quantities

Odoo 20 for operations
What to look at first, by type of operation.
Practical starting points — where Odoo 20’s changes are most likely to touch day-to-day work.
Manufacturing
Continuous production, the new work order planning views and split manufacturing orders change how production is released and rescheduled. Review them against how your planners work today.
Odoo for ManufacturingDistribution
Suggested reordering levels, stock aging and improved intercompany resupply are most relevant where replenishment is set by hand or several companies share stock.
Odoo for DistributionIndustrial Operations
Field Service now lives in Planning, with customer locations used in automatic shift planning and customer equipment tracked against maintenance contracts. For field teams, that is a process change, not just a menu change.
Odoo for Industrial OperationseCommerce
Preferred delivery dates, minimum order quantities, automated cross-sell and an order dashboard affect the path from checkout to fulfillment — worth testing with your real order flow.

Upgrading
Should you upgrade to Odoo 20?
The question isn’t only whether Odoo 20 has useful features. It’s what an upgrade changes in your operating environment.
- Your current version
- Odoo notes that the smaller the version gap, the easier the upgrade should be.
- Standard or customized
- Standard Odoo moves differently from an environment shaped by custom modules and Studio changes.
- Custom modules
- Odoo’s upgrade documentation is explicit: a database with custom modules can’t be upgraded until those modules are available for the target version.
- Integrations
- Connectors and APIs must keep orders, stock and payments flowing after the move.
- Data volume and quality
- Balances, stock and history must reconcile after the upgrade.
- Localization
- Odoo 20 changes country-specific accounting, tax and payroll features in many countries.
- Workflows and critical processes
- Some changes alter how work is done — for example, Field Service moving into Planning, or a simpler returns process.
- Upgrade testing
- Odoo recommends requesting an upgraded test database and testing it before the production upgrade.
- Change and adoption
- People need to know what changed, and why, before the new version goes live.
Odoo supports each major version for three years, so for many organizations the timing of an upgrade is a planning decision — weighed against the value of the new features and the work the upgrade involves.
